Pune, June 13, 2026: In a bid to improve traffic management and address monsoon-related concerns, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Omprakash Divte conducted a joint inspection of the road stretch between Hotel Green Park and University Chowk on Baner Road on Thursday. The inspection focused on ongoing road works, Metro construction activities, and infrastructure issues affecting commuters.

During the inspection, officials reviewed several concerns related to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and unfinished Metro-related works. In view of the approaching monsoon season, Divte directed the concerned agencies, including PMRDA and Metro authorities, to undertake necessary measures within four days to ensure proper drainage along the entire stretch from University Chowk. The directive comes after severe waterlogging at University Chowk and Hotel Mahabaleshwar during previous monsoons caused significant inconvenience to citizens.

Officials also noted that construction debris lying near the ongoing Metro work in front of Sindh Society and National Society was obstructing traffic movement. Instructions were issued to remove the debris immediately and restore smooth vehicular flow.

Several infrastructure issues arising from Metro construction were discussed during the inspection. These included traffic bottlenecks caused by road dividers, misaligned dividers between Metro pillars, uneven road surfaces near dividers, damaged footpaths beneath Metro stations, reduced road width, and a blocked stormwater drain near the IISER campus. PMRDA and Metro officials were directed to complete the pending works on priority and resolve the issues without delay.

At University Chowk, where VVIP movement is frequent, the Water Supply Department has undertaken excavation work near the junction leading towards Aundh. Officials were instructed to complete testing and reinstatement work and restore the road to its original condition within two days.

Highlighting the recurring difficulties faced by citizens during the monsoon due to Metro construction activities, Divte directed Metro authorities to conduct joint inspections with the Road Department and other civic departments to ensure timely resolution of problems. The Drainage Department and concerned regional offices were also instructed to immediately clean stormwater drains and chambers, while Metro authorities were directed to remove construction debris from footpaths at the earliest.

The inspection was attended by senior officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation, PMRDA, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), Tata Projects Limited (TPL), as well as representatives from the Water Supply and Drainage Departments.
