NGT Takes Cognizance Of Non-Compliance With Ramnadi Pollution Orders; Issues Notice To Pune Municipal Corporation
Pune, June 18, 2026: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Western Zone Bench, Pune, has taken cognizance of alleged non-compliance with its earlier directions in the Ramnadi pollution matter and has issued notices to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), PMRDA, Zilla Parishad and other concerned authorities in an Execution Application filed by Sustainable Development Evangelist, Advocate, Adv. Krunnal Ghaare.
The Execution Application seeks enforcement of the Tribunal’s earlier judgment directing authorities to establish drainage infrastructure, prevent discharge of untreated sewage into Ramnadi, stop sewage entering stormwater drains, ensure treatment of wastewater and prevent dumping of solid waste along the river banks.

According to the application, despite the expiry of the timelines granted by the Tribunal, several critical directions remain unimplemented, resulting in continued pollution of the river.
Taking note of the submissions, the NGT has admitted the Execution Application and directed the respondents to file their replies.
Commenting on the development, Adv. Krunnal Ghaare said, “PMC has undertaken certain works and some progress has undoubtedly been made. However, a substantial portion of the work remains incomplete. It is unfortunate that even after nearly 25 years of being within PMC limits, the PVPIT-Bavdhan area still lacks a comprehensive sewage network.
Similarly, PMRDA, Zilla Parishad and the concerned Bhugaon and Bhukum Gram Panchayats have failed to put in place adequate sewage treatment systems, often citing procedural issues while untreated sewage continues to enter water bodies. Several low-hanging interventions that could have been completed within days remain pending, resulting in continued pollution of Ramnadi.”
The matter is next scheduled for hearing before the NGT on 24 June 2026.
