Pune, June 22, 2026: Continuing its special drive against the illegal sale of gutkha and banned pan masala products, the Pune City Police’s Kondhwa Budruk-Yewalewadi Police Station carried out a major operation and arrested one person while seizing contraband worth ₹6.95 lakh.

The accused has been identified as Ramesh Hiralal Prajapati (35), a resident of Gokhalenagar, Pune. Police recovered banned Vimal Pan Masala and tobacco products used for mixing with the pan masala, with the total value of the seized goods estimated at ₹6,95,230.

According to police officials, they received specific information that a large quantity of prohibited gutkha products was being transported for sale in a Bolero vehicle in the Tilekarnagar area. Acting on the tip-off, a police team laid a trap and intercepted the vehicle.

During the search, officers found a substantial stock of banned Vimal Pan Masala and tobacco products concealed in the vehicle. The police subsequently seized the entire consignment along with the vehicle and took the accused into custody.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is underway.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Maruti Patil and Police Inspector (Crime) Deepak Karande of Kondhwa Budruk-Yewalewadi Police Station. The investigation is being carried out by Police Sub-Inspector Akash Vite.
