Pune, June 26, 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has described the alleged murder of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal as “extremely shocking” and “beyond imagination,” saying the case raises serious questions about the values and social environment shaping young people.

Speaking on the ongoing investigation, Fadnavis said the incident should not be viewed solely as a criminal case but also as a matter that demands broader social introspection.

“This is an extremely shocking incident, something beyond imagination. It compels society to reflect on why children from educated and well-settled families develop such cruel and revenge-driven thinking,” the Chief Minister said.

He added that society must examine the kind of environment and value system that could prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came after he met the family of the deceased. Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, urged the state government to ensure the accused receive the maximum punishment, including the death penalty.

“I requested the Chief Minister that the accused should be awarded the death penalty. He assured us that the case would be heard in a fast-track court. I have also been informed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the case,” Vishal Agarwal said.

Responding to reports suggesting that Ketan wore a hair patch, Agarwal said the matter had never been concealed from Siya Goyal’s family.

“We had informed Siya’s family that Ketan used a small hair patch. Is that a reason to kill someone? As far as I know, it was Siya who wanted to go on the trek,” he said.

According to the police investigation, Ketan Agarwal allegedly died after being pushed into a gorge at Lohagad Fort on June 18. His fiancée, Siya Goyal, and co-accused Chetan Chaudhary have been arrested in connection with the case and are facing charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.

Police are continuing their investigation into the case, while the state government has assured the victim’s family that the matter will be pursued on priority to ensure justice.
