Pune, July 16, 2026: Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has launched an AI-powered citizen complaint portal aimed at making it easier for people to report cases of food adulteration, counterfeit medicines, substandard drugs, and other violations affecting public health.

Since taking charge as FDA Commissioner, IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe has been leading a statewide crackdown on the sale of banned gutkha, pan masala, adulterated food products and other illegal activities. The sustained enforcement drive under his leadership has intensified action against offenders and significantly curbed illegal operations across the state.

Reiterating the FDA’s zero-tolerance approach towards those endangering public health, Mundhe said no leniency would be shown to individuals or businesses compromising consumer safety. He also appealed to citizens to actively report such illegal activities directly to the Food and Drug Administration.

AI-Based Citizen Complaint Portal Introduced

The FDA had earlier announced that citizens would be able to lodge complaints directly with the department regarding adulterated food, fake medicines and substandard pharmaceutical products. The newly launched AI-enabled portal is designed to make the complaint process simpler, faster and more accessible.

Sharing details of the initiative through a Facebook post, Mundhe said, “Good governance is not merely about the use of technology; it is about making governance more accessible, faster and accountable for citizens. The AI-enabled citizen complaint portal launched by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration is an important step in that direction.”

How the Portal Works

Through the portal, citizens can file complaints by speaking in Marathi, Hindi or English. Complaints can be related to adulterated food products, fake or poor-quality medicines, or any violation concerning public health.

According to Mundhe, the AI system automatically converts the user’s spoken complaint into a clear, detailed and structured written complaint containing all the necessary information.

The system then forwards the complaint directly to the concerned officer. If action is delayed, the complaint is automatically escalated to the next level of authority through an auto-escalation mechanism. Citizens can also track the status and progress of their complaints in a transparent manner from submission to resolution.

‘Every Complaint Matters Because Every Citizen Matters’

Mundhe said the initiative aims to strengthen public health protection by combining active citizen participation, advanced technology and administrative accountability.

“Every complaint matters because every citizen matters,” he said in his Facebook post, urging people to use the platform to report violations affecting food and drug safety.

How to File a Complaint

Citizens can register complaints through the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration’s AI-based platform by speaking in Marathi, Hindi or English. The AI system automatically prepares a complete complaint, which can then be submitted with a single click.

The same platform can be used to report both food safety and drug safety violations. After submission, users can track the status of their complaints online.
