Pune, July 16, 2026: Pune Rural Police have registered a non-cognisable (NC) offence against an unidentified individual after an objectionable poster claiming that Muslims were prohibited from entering the historic Sinhagad Fort was found near the fort’s entrance.

According to police, the poster was spotted early Wednesday morning near the vehicle parking area at the main entrance of the fort. It had been pasted on an old metal signboard and was removed immediately after authorities were alerted.

The poster, written in Marathi, falsely stated that Sinhagad Fort “belongs to Hindus” and that “Muslims are not allowed to enter.” It also carried the words “By Order”, apparently to create the impression that it was an official government directive.

Police clarified that no government department or authority has issued any such restriction, and the notice was completely unauthorised.

Following the incident, Pune Rural Police registered an NC against an unknown person and have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for putting up the misleading and objectionable poster.

Officials said further inquiry is underway, and appropriate action will be taken once those involved are identified.
