Pune: Mohammadwadi Residents, Students Protest Alleged Detention Of Sonam Wangchuk
Pune, July 20, 2026: Students preparing for competitive examinations, including NEET aspirants, joined residents of Mohammadwadi at Raheja Circle on Monday to protest the alleged detention of environmentalist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk.Â
Holding placards and raising slogans, the protesters said Wangchuk’s work on education, innovation and sustainable development has inspired young people across the country.
They called for the protection of democratic rights and urged the government to engage in dialogue with peaceful protesters.
NEET aspirants participating in the protest said Wangchuk’s emphasis on practical learning, scientific thinking and student-led innovation resonates strongly with India’s youth. They said silencing voices advocating education and environmental conservation sends the wrong message to students.

The protesters appealed to the authorities to uphold constitutional values, respect peaceful dissent and address public concerns through meaningful discussions.
