Pune: Handcuffed Accused Escapes From Bund Garden Police Station Investigation Room; Hunt Launched
Pune, July 20, 2026: A 19-year-old accused managed to escape from the investigation room of Bund Garden Police Station in the early hours of Sunday, triggering a police search operation.
The escaped accused has been identified as Vaibhav Anil Khot (19), a resident of Shramik Nagar, Tingre Nagar, Vishrantwadi. Bund Garden Police have registered a fresh case against him for escaping from lawful custody.
According to the police, Khot had been arrested on July 19 in connection with another criminal case and was being held in the police station’s investigation room. He had been handcuffed while in custody.
Police said that at around 4 am, Khot allegedly slipped one of his hands out of the handcuffs and took advantage of a moment when the officers on duty were distracted to flee from the police station.
After discovering the escape, police immediately launched a search operation. Officers examined CCTV footage from the Pune Railway Station area and nearby locations to trace the accused’s movements.
A complaint regarding the escape has been lodged by police constable Shahaji Thawal, and a case has been registered against Khot at Bund Garden Police Station.
Further investigation is being carried out by Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Chavan, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused.
