PCMC Cracks Down On Illegal Encroachment On Nala, Restores Natural Water Flow Before Monsoon
Pune, July 22, 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has removed an illegal structure built over a stormwater drain near Gyan Prabodhini School in More Vasti, Ganesh Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the F Regional Office. The action was taken to restore the natural flow of rainwater and reduce the risk of flooding during the monsoon.
During the demolition drive, civic officials removed unauthorised pipes that had been laid inside the drain and completely cleared the water channel, allowing rainwater to flow freely.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Atul Patil, Assistant Commissioner and Head of the F Regional Office. Officials including Deputy Engineer Hemant Ghod, Junior Engineer Kumbhar, Encroachment Inspector Ganesh Tikone, Beat Inspectors Prafull Bhokare, Sainath Desai, Aishwarya Masal, and other civic staff were present during the drive.
The enforcement team comprised five police personnel from the Encroachment Department, 17 Maharashtra Security Force personnel, and five municipal workers. Two JCB excavators were deployed to remove the illegal construction.
PCMC officials said similar action will continue against unauthorised encroachments on drains, streams and other natural water channels across the city to ensure smooth drainage during the rainy season.
Commissioner Directs Citywide Drain Clearance Drive
PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi said all regional offices have been instructed to carry out extensive drain-cleaning drives and remove obstructions that hinder the natural flow of water.
“Maintaining the free flow of water through drains during the monsoon is essential to prevent flooding. This campaign will continue across all regional offices. Citizens are requested not to install unauthorised pipes or undertake illegal construction that obstructs drainage channels. Public cooperation is crucial for preventing flood-like situations and strengthening the city’s stormwater drainage system,” he said.
