Maharashtra Rain Alert: IMD Issues Orange Alert For Pune Ghats, Raigad And Ratnagiri; Heavy Rain Likely In Next 24 Hours
Pune, July 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across Maharashtra over the next 24 hours, issuing an Orange Alert for the ghat areas of Pune and Satara, as well as Raigad and Ratnagiri, due to an active monsoon system and a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, isolated places in the Konkan region and the Western Ghats are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday. The alert comes as the monsoon remains active across the state, supported by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
The Tamhini Ghat region in Pune district recorded the state’s highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, receiving 170 mm of rain. Heavy showers are also expected in parts of Thane, Mumbai, Sindhudurg, the ghat areas of Kolhapur, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli.
Yellow Alert for Vidarbha, Marathwada and North Maharashtra
The IMD has also issued a Yellow Alert for several districts in Vidarbha, Marathwada and North Maharashtra, where isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate rainfall are expected. Residents, particularly farmers, have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
Active Weather Systems Driving Rainfall
Meteorologists said the monsoon trough currently extends from Rajasthan to the Bay of Bengal, while a deep low-pressure area over the north Odisha and West Bengal coast continues to strengthen monsoon activity across central and western India.
Authorities have advised residents in districts under Orange and Yellow alerts to monitor official weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel to landslide-prone or waterlogged areas, and exercise caution during periods of intense rainfall.
