Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ( PCMC) has announced a new initiative which will be implemented from next week wherein the names of property owners who have basic property tax arrears of more than one lakh rupees for four years will be published in newspapers and various social media platforms.

These defaulters include not only residential property owners but also various companies, institutions, professionals etc. The number of outstanding properties in the city for four years is 1,00,186, and they have a total outstanding of Rs 305 crore 69 lakh 75 thousand.

This move is aimed at increasing tax compliance and encouraging property owners to clear their outstanding debts.
The corporation has stated that strict measures will be taken against those who fail to pay their dues, including legal action and attachment of property.

This initiative is a part of the corporation’s efforts to increase revenue and provide better services to the citizens of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

“The Municipal Corporation’s Taxation and Tax Collection Department is putting a lot of effort into achieving the goal for collecting property taxes. Procedures like issuing notices to defaulters and confiscation are possible, but they cannot be carried out everywhere due to a manpower shortage. As a result, it has been decided to publish in the newspaper the names of those who have not paid property tax for four years,” said Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner for the Department of Taxation PCMC.

” The Municipal Corporation will need to adopt a firm stance because certain property owners are refusing to pay property tax despite receiving numerous notices so, we decided to publish their names in newspapers and various social media platforms” – Shekhar Singh, Municipal Commissioner, PCMC.
