Pune : National Green Tribunal orders fine of Rs 34 lakh to Maan gram panchayat over illegal garbage dumping

The Pune bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered a fine of Rs 34 lakh Maan gram panchayat for illegal dumping of garbage, environmental damage and ordered them to remove the waste in one year. 

The fines collected by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) shall be used for restoration of the environment caused by the garbage.  The Cliff Garden Condominium, near IT Park phase -3,Hinjewadi, approached NGT about this illegal dumping in areas, survey number 262, owned by the Forest Department. 

NGT Pune bench headed by Dinesh Kumar Singh (JM) and Dr.Vijay Kulkarni (EM) recently ordered on complaints of The Cliff Garden Condominium.

On earlier directions of NGT, Gram Panchayat had stopped dumping of garbage and had started removal of legacy waste. But, NGT ordered a time bound program of removal of waste dumped by Gram panchayat. NGT also ordered a stop to the burning of solid waste at the dumping site. 

“Collector of Pune has been directed to allot land to Gram Panchayat for processing of municipal waste. Adv Saurabh Kulkarni represented the case against Gram Panchayat,” informed Gokul Ojha, Chairman of society.
