Pune: The Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Pune was able to issue more passports from January to October 2023 as compared to the same period in the previous year.

As per information, the number of passports issued from January to October 2022 was 2,80,120 whereas the number of passports issued from January to October 2023 is 3,88,437. Thus, the number of citizens taking passports this year has increased by more than one lakh as compared to the previous year.

As per information, citizens now feel that just like an Aadhaar card and PAN card, a passport is a must-have. Also, travelling abroad has become more economical than before. Therefore, the number of citizens going abroad has started increasing. Additionally, the day-to-day operations of the passport office have become easier. Now, people get an appointment in three-four days to get a passport. Also, since June, the passport office is often open on Saturdays as well. That is why in the last 10 months an increase was seen.

In October, at a press conference Dr Arjun Deore, Regional Passport Officer, Pune, stated that the entire passport process has been streamlined and made better –

Earlier, the appointments for passport issuance, under normal and Tatkal categories, were being issued 2 months and 3 months later respectively. In an entire year, the passport office has looked at various points and services which can be made better and quicker.
