Pune News : Wagholi school accountant booked for cheating parents of Rs 53 lakhs ; Probe launched

Pune: The Lonikand police have booked an accountant of Podar International School in Wagholi for extorting over Rs 13 Lakh from several parents. The accused is identified as Vinay Kumar Bhandarkar.
As per information, Rahul Kolpe, Sub Inspector, Lonikand Police Station said that from April 2023 to November 2023, Bhandarkar was working as an accountant in Podar International School in Ubale Nagar of Wagholi where the complainant Swanand Kulkarni was working.
The accused extorted Rs 13,65,500 from the parents by giving various reasons saying that the admission of their child will be done through the Right to Education (RTE) quota.
Bhandarkar reportedly collected a sum of Rs 13,65,500 from several parents both in cash and through online transactions during April. The accused said that he would pay the fee to the school.
However, when the parents did not see their children granted admission, they raised concerns with Bhandarkar, Subsequently, the parents approached the school administration with their grievances.
In response, the school complained to the Lonikand Police and registered a case against the accountant under Sections 420 and 408 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation into the matter is underway.
