Data on land disputes in both urban and rural areas is expected to be stored by the land records department in civil court cases.
This will enable purchasers to know whether the land they intend to purchase is involved in any legal disputes.
According to an official of the land records department, residents will soon be able to enter survey numbers or 7/12 extract details to see whether there is a legal dispute. The official stated that the data linkage work was ongoing and should be completed shortly.
According to a senior official of the land records department, the process of uploading the ongoing cases has commenced. Still, efforts are underway to improve data pertaining to previous cases. Having a suitable area-wise search facility is the goal.
One of the few states to launch the initiative, according to another senior official in the Maharashtra Land Records Department, was Maharashtra. The process of upgrading the facility began last year, and work is still ongoing. With support from the National Informatics Center, the department’s website is being integrated with the civil cases.
Online access to court cases, according to a citizen activist, would benefit the public. Potential customers will benefit greatly if the cases are displayed on the website. Improved transparency is ensured by the process. However, it’s important to make sure that people are aware of these facilities.
In an effort to lessen questionable transactions and legal disputes, the Union government had instructed the states to begin the linking process.
