Pune: The tragic accident in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar involving a minor driving recklessly under the influence of alcohol has taken a new twist with revelations about the family’s alleged connections to the underworld.
In Kalyani Nagar, Pune, a minor named Vedant Agarwal, under the influence of alcohol, drove a Porsche car recklessly, resulting in the deaths of two engineers, Anis Awadiya and Ashwini Koshta. The incident has already sparked significant public outrage and led to legal action against Vedant and his father, Vishal Agarwal.
New Revelations About the Agarwal Family
Recent revelations have brought to light the family’s past connections with the underworld. Surendra Kumar Agarwal, the grandfather of Vedant Agarwal, was reportedly involved with notorious gangster Chhota Rajan.
According to claims made by a construction professional during opposition to Surendra Kumar Agarwal’s pre-arrest bail, Surendra had sought the help of Chhota Rajan in a property dispute with his brother, Ram Kumar Agarwal, a few years ago. The CBI’s investigation into the matter has brought forth the following details:
Dispute with Ajay Bhosle: It was alleged that Surendra Kumar Agarwal offered Chhota Rajan the task of killing Ajay Bhosle, a then-corporator, to settle a property dispute.
2009 Assassination Attempt: On November 11, 2009, corporator Ajay Bhosle was attacked while campaigning for elections in Koregaon Park. Although his driver was injured, Bhosle survived the attack. The case, initially investigated by Pune Police, was later handed over to the CID and eventually the CBI, which uncovered the connection to Chhota Rajan.
The CBI investigation revealed that Surendra Kumar Agarwal had indeed offered Chhota Rajan the task to eliminate Ajay Bhosle, citing his close association with Ram Kumar Agarwal.
Current Legal Implications
Following the Kalyani Nagar accident, the police have come under scrutiny for allegedly providing favorable treatment to Vedant Agarwal. The minor received bail within 15 hours, and it has been suggested that this leniency might be connected to the Agarwal family’s influence.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned the lenient treatment of Vedant Agarwal by the Juvenile Justice Board and has promised strong action. The government has also taken steps to seal the bar that served alcohol to the minor and is pursuing strict enforcement against similar violations.
