The crime scene at Parihar Chowk, Aundh, where the senior citizen and two others were attacked.

In the early hours of Thursday, a 77-year-old man was critically injured after being attacked by a group of youngsters, including minors, near Parihar Chowk in Aundh.

As per information, the victim, Samir Roychoudhary, a resident of Sayali Garden Society in Aundh, was out for his morning walk around 5:15 am when the incident occurred. The police reported that a group of youths intercepted Roychowdhury near the tennis court, demanding money. When he refused, they struck him on the head with a hard object, causing severe injuries and leaving him unconscious. A local newspaper vendor alerted his family, and Roychoudhary was rushed to a private hospital where his condition remains critical.

The same group of assailants attacked two other individuals shortly after. Shreyas Satish Shetty, a 30-year-old cyclist from Ashwini Society in Khadki, was intercepted near Purvi Mobile shop. When the youths demanded money and attempted to rob him, Shetty resisted but was injured with an iron rod before managing to escape. Another victim, Ramsobitkumar Mandal, 39, a security guard at a construction site in the area, was also attacked with an iron rod for money. Mandal sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

The police quickly responded to the incidents, with a team including crime branch officers initiating an investigation. Shreyas Shetty filed the first information report (FIR) at the Chaturshringi police station under sections 397, 307, and 341 of the Indian Penal Code.

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil confirmed that four of the assailants, all minors, had been detained. “Search is on for two more youngsters, including a minor boy, who were involved in the crime,” he added.

Residents have expressed concerns over the rise in such crimes in the Aundh area and are urging the police to increase patrolling, especially in the early morning hours.
