Pune: MPCB Shuts Down Kondhwa Based Manufacturing Unit For Illegal Plastic Production
In a crackdown on plastic pollution, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) issued a closure notice to Kondhwa-based ‘Jalaram Plastic’ on July 10. This action followed the seizure of nearly 300 kg of illegal plastic below 300 microns during a surprise inspection on June 29.
The MPCB’s inspection revealed that the manufacturing unit was in violation of multiple regulations. The unit had not obtained the mandatory extended producer responsibility (EPR) certificate nor the necessary plastic registration as stipulated under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
A fine of ₹25,000 was imposed on the firm, which was promptly paid to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Subsequently, the MPCB sent a closure proposal to its head office in Mumbai on July 1, and upon receiving approval, issued the closure notice on July 10.
The closure notice detailed the violations, stating, “The unit, which previously received consent from the MPCB, was engaged in manufacturing plastic bags without handles below 50 microns and failed to print the required MPCB consent and EPR details. The unit has not obtained an extended producer responsibility (EPR) certificate from the competent authority and lacks the plastic registration under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.”
This action is part of MPCB’s ongoing efforts to enforce compliance and reduce plastic pollution in the region.
