Weather Report: Pune and Thane Brace for Heavy Rainfall on July 14; IMD Issues Alerts Across Maharashtra
Monsoon Arrives Early in Maharashtra, Set to Hit Mumbai in 2-3 Days; IMD Issues Orange Alert for Several Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall for several districts in Maharashtra, including Pune and Thane, on Sunday, July 14. The IMD has issued a red alert for Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, and Ratnagiri, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall in these regions.
An orange alert has been issued for Thane, Raigad, and Pune, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in these areas. Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in effect for Mumbai and Palghar, signaling moderate rainfall. On July 15, the alerts escalate, with an orange alert covering Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, and Parbhani.
According to the Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), “Heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely.” The forecast highlights the significant risk of flash floods in these areas, necessitating heightened preparedness and caution.
In addition to Maharashtra, the IMD has issued a red alert for Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, and Gujarat Region due to expected isolated extremely heavy rainfall from July 13 to 17. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha are also expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days.
