Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Deploys 16 Medical Teams Amid Heavy Rainfall
Due to heavy rainfall, water has accumulated in low-lying areas across the city, leading to the temporary relocation of around 4,500 residents to shelter centers by the Municipal Corporation. Health checks are being conducted at these centers to prevent waterborne diseases, with medical teams available 24/7, according to Commissioner Shekhar Singh. In response to the flood situation, 16 teams from the Municipal Health Department are conducting health checks and providing treatments. They are also surveying affected areas, raising awareness, and offering medication to prevent waterborne and insect-borne diseases. Residents are advised to drink filtered and boiled water, avoid stagnant water, and ensure cleanliness to prevent mosquito breeding.
Residents have been relocated to shelters where food and essential items are provided. Medical teams are also stationed at these shelters. The affected areas include:
- Samrat Chowk, Laltopi Nagar, Bhatnagar, Pimpri River Road, Ramnagar, Patrashed Link Road, and Buddh Nagar.
- Tanaji Nagar, Kalewadi’s Pawan Nagar, Samir Lawns in Ravet, Shinde Vasti Road, and Jadhav Ghat.
- Laxminagar, Pawar Vasti, Bhumkar Vasti, Chonde Ghat, Teacher Society, Laxmi Colony, Om Shiv Colony, Datta mandir Road, Pimple Gurav, Bhujbal Vasti, and Wakad.
- Ramnagar and Bopkhel, where 20-25 houses were flooded with three to four feet of water.
- Gharkul, Shriram Colony, Talwade, Defense Colony, Patil Nagar, and Chikhli.
- Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Valmiki Ashram, Pavana Nagar, Jagtap Nagar, and Sanjay Gandhi Nagar.
- Hirabai Slum, Kasarwadi, Bharat Nagar, Fugewadi, Dapodi, Mulanagar, Madhuban Society, and Old Sangvi.
As the water recedes, municipal teams are cleaning blocked chambers, clearing debris from roads and riversides, and disinfecting areas. They are also ensuring food and other necessities at the shelter centers, including schools and localities such as Bopkhel School, Moshi, Gharkul, Pimple Gurav, and Old Sangvi.
Although the rain has reduced and conditions are improving, Commissioner Singh advises residents to remain cautious, stay indoors unless necessary, and stay alert to rising river levels, especially those living near the riverbanks.
