Maharashtra Government Launches 'Eco Friendly Ganesha' App to Promote Environmental Conservation
In a bid to foster environmental conservation during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, Ravindra Chavan, Public Works Minister of Maharashtra, emphasized the significance of nature in Hindu culture. The state’s coalition government has introduced a crucial initiative to ensure the preservation and enhancement of nature during the festival celebrations.
Named ‘Eco Friendly Ganesha’, the newly launched mobile application aims to centralize information about sculptors creating eco-friendly Ganesha idols. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board facilitated the development of this app, which registers approximately 250 to 300 sculptors across the state. Each registered sculptor’s details, including their mobile number, email address, and photographs of their eco-friendly Ganesha idols crafted from materials such as clay and literature, are available on the app.
This initiative assures devotees that celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi need not harm the environment. The app also aims to alleviate concerns among worshippers about any potential ecological impact during the festival. Minister Chavan stressed that through ‘Eco Friendly Ganesha’, the government promotes sustainable practices and supports artisans dedicated to eco-conscious craftsmanship.
With this innovative step, Maharashtra anticipates a more environmentally mindful Ganesh Chaturthi celebration, where the fervor of the festival is harmonized with nature conservation efforts.
The app’s accessibility ensures that worshippers can easily locate and support sculptors committed to preserving the environment, reinforcing the cultural and environmental ethos synonymous with the festival.
