Junaid Khan, son of acclaimed actor Aamir Khan, is set to make his acting debut with the film Maharaj, which will premiere exclusively on Netflix. The streaming giant announced the release date and unveiled the first teaser poster on their official social media handles. Maharaj is scheduled to release on June 14.

Maharaj, features Junaid Khan in the role of Karsandas Mulji, a notable journalist and social reformer from the 19th century who was a pioneering advocate for women’s rights. The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat in a significant role, alongside Sharvari Wagh and Shalini Pandey.

The storyline is inspired by the 1862 Maharaja Libel Case, with Junaid portraying Karsandas Mulji. Mulji was a student at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and a protégé of the scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji. Known for his writings on widow remarriage and his advocacy for the oppressed, Mulji played a crucial role in sowing the seeds of social reform in Indian society.

Sharvari Wagh, who plays a pivotal role in the film, shared her experience working with Junaid in an interview with a news agency. She described him as an easygoing and good co-actor, highlighting the enjoyable working environment on set. She noted that both she and Junaid are at similar stages in their careers, which contributed to a shared energy during filming.

Maharaj, a collaboration between Netflix and Yash Raj Films, is helmed by filmmaker Siddharth P. Malhotra. The film aims to showcase Mulji’s courageous acts and significant contributions to social reform.

Following Maharaj, Junaid Khan will also be seen in another project where he shares the screen with actress Sai Pallavi in a film reportedly titled, Ek Din.
