In a significant development, the Maharashtra state revenue department has made the digitally signed 7/12 extract available through the Umang mobile app.

This mobile app, created by the central government, aims to provide convenient access to important documents for citizens. The 7/12 extract, a computerized land record maintained by the revenue department, can now be accessed digitally through the app, revolutionizing the way citizens interact with the Mahabhumi portal.

The Mahabhumi portal, accessible to all citizens, previously served as the primary platform to access the digitally signed 7/12. However, with the integration of this feature into the Umang app, users can now access their land records on-the-go. The app is available for download on both Android devices through the Google Play Store and Apple devices through the App Store.

The computerization of 2 crore 57 lakh Satbara (7/12 extract) records across 44,560 revenue villages in 358 talukas of 35 districts of Maharashtra has paved the way for this digital transformation. Over 99% of these records have been digitally signed, allowing citizens to conveniently access their Village Sample No. 7/12 anytime and anywhere by making a digital payment of Rs. 15 each.

Previously, citizens had to rely on Maha-e Seva Kendra or Xerox centers to obtain a printed copy of their digitally signed 7/12, often incurring fees ranging from Rs. 25 to Rs. 50 for a document that cost Rs. 15 digitally. Additionally, they had to remember the Mahabhumi portal website to access their land records. With the Umang mobile app, all these hurdles have been eliminated, making the process more user-friendly.

The convenience of the Umang app extends beyond accessing land records. Currently, around 1.5 to 2 lakh citizens of Maharashtra use the app daily to modify their digital signatures, obtain account statements, and access income slips for official and court purposes. This has resulted in approximately 5.5 crore digitally signed records being downloaded and utilized from the Mahabhumi portal. The government has also generated a revenue of Rs. 105.72 crore through these digital services.

The Umang app has already garnered 2.2 million registered users who benefit from the services provided on the Mahabhumi portal. One of the key advantages of the app is the ability to share the digital 7/12 with other individuals or offices without the need for printing. This not only saves unnecessary paper usage but also expedites the process of sharing land records.

Furthermore, the Umang app ensures the security and accuracy of the digital 7/12 records. Users can verify the authenticity of the document by checking the document ID within the app. Moreover, the app facilitates secure transactions, ensuring that funds are transferred directly to the user’s Indian bank account.

|The availability of the digital signature feature through the Umang mobile app marks a significant milestone in the digital revolution of the revenue department. By simplifying access to land records and reducing reliance on physical copies, this innovation streamlines processes, saves time, and contributes to the reduction of paper usage. The Umang app’s integration with the Satbara system is a commendable step towards enhancing citizen services and promoting a more efficient and environmentally friendly approach to record-keeping,” informed Ramdas Jagtap, Deputy Collector, Pune.
