Chemist from Undri Booked for Illegally Selling Drugs

Pune, June 5, 2023 : Officials of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Anti-Narcotics cell of the Pune crime branch have arrested a chemist from Undri for allegedly selling drugs without any prescription.

As per information, accused Mangesh Narute, resident of Ambegaon, faces charge after allegedly engaging in the sale of mephentermine injections, MTP kits and strips of Jest-pro tablets which are used for pregnancy termination, menstrual treatment and pregnancy-related conditions. An official complaint has been registered at the Kondhwa police station against the accused.

Following a tip-off, officials conducted a raid at Sangam Medical, a pharmacy situated near Sangam Hospital in Undri and nabbed the accused. Authorities seized eight mephentermine injections, multiple MTP kits, and strips of Jest-pro tablets from the shop.

Dinesh Khivasara, Assistant Commissioner of FDA said, “The seized medicines are used for pregnancy termination. However, for selling it you need to have a prescription. Hence, we have taken action against the accused as he was found selling it without any valid prescription.”

Santosh Sonawane, senior Police Inspector from the Kondhwa police station said, “It was found that the accused was involved in the sale of drugs without any prescription. Hence, as per the complaint given by the FDA officers, we have booked the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is going on.”
