Pune: On Saturday evening, a luxury bus traveling towards Mumbai caught fire near Chinchpada in Somata on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway. The fire was caused by a short circuit inside the bus, but the driver of the vehicle was quick to respond and managed to evacuate all 14 passengers safely. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from the incident.

According to authorities, the bus was traveling from Ahmedabad to Hyderabad via Mumbai. Along with the passengers, the bus was carrying luggage and personal belongings. Unfortunately, the fire quickly spread and consumed all the luggage and personal belongings of the passengers, causing significant losses.

The incident also highlighted a significant issue regarding the availability of fire engines on the National Highway. The toll agency responsible for the section of the National Highway where the incident occurred did not have a fire brigade engine. As a result, they had to call for assistance from nearby towns such as Tarapur MIDC, Palghar, or Dahanu council. However, the fire engines from these towns took more than 45 minutes to reach the scene of the incident. This delay caused the burning vehicle to be destroyed completely, highlighting the need for better fire safety infrastructure on the National Highway.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of having proper fire safety protocols and infrastructure in place, not just on the National Highway but across the country. It is crucial to have a comprehensive emergency response plan to ensure the safety of individuals and minimize property damage in the event of such incidents
