These actions are a result of the social media interaction that the Pune city Police chief Amitabh Gupta had with the citizens where the latter expressed their concerns about hookah parlours and hotels operating through the night.

The social security branch of the Pune city Police has started taking action against hotels and bars which are providing hookah services and staying open till very late in the night. This operation which was started four weeks ago is on in full swing.

In the first phase, action was  initiated against such famous spots that come under the jurisdiction of Yerwada Police Station.

These actions are a result of the social media interaction that the Pune city Police chief Amitabh Gupta had with the citizens where the latter expressed their concerns about hookah parlours and hotels operating through the night.

As the pandemic-induced restrictions are being lifted and life is limping back to normalcy, late night hotel visits and hookah parties are on the rise. .

Amitabh Gupta has asked the social security department to take control of the situation.

He said that hotels and bars which were running beyond stipulated time have been asked to close and legal action has been initiated.

“Complaints were raised by citizens during my interaction with citizens through Twitter live, based on which action has been initiated,” said Gupta.
