Huawei’s latest innovation, the Mate XT tri-fold smartphone, has garnered more than 2.7 million pre-orders, as per the company’s website. The pre-order phase, which began on Saturday noon, comes over two days before Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 16 launch scheduled for early Tuesday morning, Beijing time.

Huawei has announced that the official launch event for the Mate XT will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, though the company has not yet revealed the device’s price. The Mate XT is set to hit the market on September 20.

This surge in pre-orders highlights Huawei’s strong market position amid shifting dynamics in the smartphone industry. As per information, in the second quarter of this year, Apple fell out of the top five smartphone vendors in China for the first time, as domestic brands captured all five top positions, according to Canalys. During this period, Huawei secured the fourth spot with 10.6 million smartphones shipped.

In contrast, Apple shipped 10 million phones in the first quarter and continues to focus on traditional smartphone designs. Meanwhile, Huawei and other Chinese manufacturers are leading the way in the foldable and flip phone segments.
