The Pune Municipal Corporation has issued notices to 124 developers for their failure to adhere to the guidelines aimed at curbing air pollution in the city. These developers have been requested to provide a detailed report on the actions they have taken to address this issue.

The Pune chapter of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) has pledged its support to the PMC and has urged its members to implement measures to combat air pollution. The PMC has explicitly stated that no builder has been instructed to halt their work thus far. This initiative has been undertaken due to the worsening air quality in major cities across India.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) released guidelines on November 2, 2023, to curb air pollution in the city. However, it has been over two weeks since the release, and the civic body has now issued notices to 124 developers for non-compliance with the regulations. Out of these notices, 57 were given between November 22 and 24, while the remaining 67 were issued on a single day, Saturday.

As per the information provided, these developers have been instructed to provide a detailed report on their actions. In response, the Pune chapter of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) has notified the PMC that its members have been directed to address air pollution in accordance with a previous High Court (HC) ruling.

Additionally, developers must prioritise pollution control measures to enhance the air quality of the city. However, it has come to our attention that certain developers have failed to comply with these regulations. Consequently, we have issued notices to rectify this situation. It is worth noting that no builder has been instructed to halt their construction activities thus far.

As per the information received, it is the responsibility of realtors to regularly monitor and control pollution levels on construction sites. We are currently inspecting and issuing notices to developers who are not complying with these measures. If they continue to ignore our appeals, necessary action will be taken to halt their work. In the meantime, the CREDAI Pune chapter has released a statement affirming their cooperation with the PMC. They have also advised their members to install sprinkler systems and erect 14 feet high GI/metal sheets and six feet green cloth around the perimeter of construction sites to minimise pollution.

CREDAI has instructed its members to take the required measures and implement systems at project construction sites, as well as arrange for the installation of green nets around the building. The truck supplier has been requested to ensure that the trucks are completely covered to prevent construction debris from becoming airborne during transportation and to ensure that the vehicles possess a valid PUC certificate.
