Mumbai, September 5, 2025 — Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar has issued his first response after a video of his telephonic exchange with IPS officer Anjali Krishna in Solapur went viral on social media.

The controversy began in Kurdu village, Solapur, where locals reportedly called Pawar to intervene and stop action against illegal excavation of murum. During the call, Pawar instructed Krishna to halt the operation and was heard saying, “Itni daring hai tumhari? Mera chehra to pehchanogi na?” — remarks that triggered widespread criticism for being disrespectful towards a senior woman police officer.

Facing backlash, Pawar clarified in a post on X that his intention was not to interfere in law enforcement but to ensure the situation on the ground remained peaceful and did not escalate. “I have the highest respect for our police force and for women officers who carry out their duties with courage and honesty. For me, the rule of law is paramount,” he stated.

In his post on X he stated, “My attention has been drawn to certain videos circulating regarding my interaction with police officials in Solapur. Let me state clearly that my intention was not to interfere with law enforcement but to ensure that the situation on the ground remained calm and did not escalate further. I have the highest respect for our police force and its officers, including the women officers who serve with distinction and courage and I value the rule of law above all. I remain firmly committed to transparent governance and to ensuring that every illegal activity, including sand mining, is dealt with strictly as per the law.”

He further emphasized his commitment to transparent governance and assured strict action against all forms of illegal activities, including unauthorized sand, soil, and stone excavation.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders, including MP Sanjay Raut, targeted Pawar, questioning his conduct and discipline. The viral video has since fueled a political storm, compelling the Deputy CM to defend his actions publicly.
