Amazon India, Meesho, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and JioMart have responded to an appeal from PETA India by eliminating listings for glue traps from their websites. These traps, coated with a sticky adhesive, trap small animals, subjecting them to prolonged suffering before death.

This action follows the ban on glue traps in 32 states and union territories across India, a result of PETA India’s advocacy efforts. JioMart, the e-commerce arm of Reliance Retail, has ceased selling glue traps, with plans to discontinue offline sales across its vast network of over 16,000 stores nationwide.

The plight of wildlife, including birds, snakes, mice, rats, and squirrels, caught in glue traps is harrowing. They struggle desperately, sometimes resorting to self-mutilation, before succumbing to shock, dehydration, or blood loss. Not only are glue traps cruel, but they are also ineffective, failing to address the root cause of the issue.

PETA India urges BigBasket and IndiaMART to join other retailers in ceasing the sale and promotion of glue traps. They also encourage the public to advocate for the discontinuation of these products by any other retailers.

The slow and agonizing deaths faced by animals caught in glue traps involve screaming, panic, and self-inflicted injuries as they attempt to escape.
