Amazon Steps into Quick Commerce Market, Offering 15-Minute Deliveries Across India
Amazon, the popular online shopping giant, is all set to enter the fast-paced delivery market in India, competing with services like Zomato’s Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, Flipkart Minutes, BigBasket, and others. Samir Kumar, the Country Manager of Amazon India, shared with the press on December 10 that Amazon will be launching its quick delivery service in India, starting with pilot programs in Bengaluru later this month. While previous reports suggested Amazon might name its quick commerce service Tez, the final name is still under consideration.
“We will initiate a pilot program that allows our customers to receive their daily essentials in 15 minutes or less,” Kumar stated during the company’s flagship event, Smbhav, held in Delhi.
“Our approach has always revolved around ‘selection, value, and convenience,’ and our goal is to establish a large, profitable business in India. We aim to implement our strategy to provide the widest selection at the fastest speeds and best value for customers in every pin code across the nation,” Kumar continued. This marks the first significant launch under Kumar’s leadership, who took over from former head Manish Tiwary just two months ago. Reports indicate that Amazon’s entry into quick commerce has been in development for several months and comes at a time when consumer preferences in India are shifting.
More customers are now opting for quick commerce platforms instead of waiting for 1- or 2-day deliveries. This trend is impacting e-commerce giants like Flipkart and Amazon, prompting them to introduce their own rapid delivery services, according to analysts.
Traditional e-commerce companies are looking to leverage their existing customer base.
“We already have millions of customers across India including Prime Members who trust us and will look forward to this convenience,” Kumar said.
