Anti-narcotics drive in Pune: 119 Under Scanner For Ordering MD via courier
In a significant breakthrough, the Pune Police have uncovered a large-scale mephedrone abuse ring, with hundreds of youths, mostly highly educated IT professionals, buying the drug through couriers. The Crime Branch has identified 119 individuals, served notices to 70, and is searching for the remaining 49.
The investigation began two weeks ago with the seizure of mephedrone worth lakhs in Vishrantwadi. The probe has revealed that the accused sold the drug to customers across Pune, Maharashtra, and other states through courier services.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, “We have taken up a campaign to make Pune city drug-free (Drugs Free Pune). Drug traffickers are on our radar, and we’re keeping an eye on their every move. We’re also watching those who buy drugs.”
The Anti-Narcotics Squad has arrested several individuals, including the mastermind Nimish Abnave, who procured the drug from Gujarat. The police are now counseling the 70 individuals who have been served notices, aiming to educate them about the dangers of drug abuse.
Commissioner Kumar emphasized, “The Vishrantwadi drug case is being thoroughly investigated. We’re committed to making Pune a drug-free city.”
