In a surprising turn of events in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections, Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister, has reportedly lost his New Delhi seat by a margin of 3,182 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Sahib Singh emerged victorious in the highly contested constituency, dealing a significant setback to AAP. Kejriwal, who has led AAP’s governance in Delhi for over ten years, faced intense competition as the BJP made notable strides in several key constituencies. This defeat further complicates AAP’s efforts to retain power, with the BJP showing a strong electoral performance in the capital.

Currently, in the New Delhi constituency, Kejriwal of AAP is trailing by 11,070 votes, with Parvesh Sahib Singh of BJP leading with 19,267 votes. Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Sandeep Dikshit is significantly behind, with only 3,013 votes.

Amidst the ongoing vote counting, Kejriwal has raised concerns over the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) refusal to upload Form 17C, a crucial document that details the total votes cast through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for each constituency. Kejriwal criticized the ECI for withholding this information despite repeated requests, taking to X to express his disappointment and call for greater transparency in the electoral process.

In response, AAP has launched a dedicated website to provide copies of Form 17C for all constituencies in Delhi. Kejriwal emphasized the need for transparency, asserting that voters should have access to this data for every constituency and polling booth, something he believes the Election Commission should have ensured.

As the counting continues, the latest trends indicate a commanding lead for the BJP, crossing the halfway mark and posing a serious challenge to the AAP’s hold on power. While the final result remains uncertain, BJP’s performance thus far suggests a closely contested political future for Delhi.
