Ahmedabad, Gujarat – February 10, 2024: A fire broke out at the under-construction Sabarmati bullet train station in Ahmedabad in the early hours of Saturday, officials said. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m., prompting the deployment of thirteen fire tenders to bring the blaze under control.

According to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the fire was reported in the roof shuttering at one section of the construction site. Initial assessments suggest that welding sparks from temporary shuttering work may have triggered the fire. However, the exact cause is yet to be determined. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation at the site. The Sabarmati bullet train terminal is India’s first-ever high-speed rail station, featuring state-of-the-art design elements. The project is being developed with financial and technical assistance from the Japanese government.

The station is part of the ambitious 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, which will have 12 stations spanning Gujarat (352 km) and Maharashtra (156 km). Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had previously shared a video showcasing the station’s modern architecture on social media in December 2023.
