Pune, July 9, 2026: A heartwarming act of compassion by Pune Traffic Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare has won widespread appreciation after he promptly came to the aid of a Warkari who collapsed after suffering a seizure during the Ashadhi Wari procession in Pune.
The incident occurred as the palkhi processions of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj entered Pune city amid thousands of devotees. A video of Dr. Bhajibhakare rushing to assist the devotee has since gone viral on social media.
According to officials, the Warkari suddenly suffered a seizure and collapsed during the procession. Acting swiftly, Dr. Bhajibhakare provided immediate assistance and ensured that the devotee was rushed for medical treatment without delay. His timely intervention is believed to have saved the man’s life.
The incident has drawn praise from citizens on social media, with many lauding the senior police officer for demonstrating humanity and compassion while performing his official duties.
Meanwhile, Pune has made elaborate arrangements for the annual Ashadhi Wari. The palkhi of Sant Tukaram Maharaj will halt at the Nivdunga Vitthal Temple in Nana Peth, while the palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj will stay at the Palkhi Vitthoba Temple in Bhavani Peth.
Police have deployed extensive security across both locations, with CCTV surveillance, traffic management measures, dedicated queues for devotees, emergency response teams, and other civic facilities to ensure the smooth conduct of the religious event.
This year, due to the demolition of the old hall in front of the historic Palkhi Vitthoba Temple in Bhavani Peth, the palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj will be accommodated in a specially erected grand canopy. Accommodation and food arrangements have also been made for the Warkaris accompanying the procession.
