Pune, July 9: Kondhwa Police have registered a case against a 55-year-old man for allegedly illegally storing explosive chemicals at his residence in Undri, leading to a blast that left him seriously injured and endangered the lives of nearby residents.
The accused has been identified as Kishore Chandrakant Kapadiya (55, a resident of Undri.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 12:30 pm on July 4, when Kapadiya allegedly stored potassium nitrate and barium dioxide—classified as explosive substances—inside his apartment without the mandatory licence required under the Explosives Act, 1884.
Police said the accused allegedly handled the chemicals negligently and mixed them in a grinder, triggering an explosion. The blast caused serious injuries to Kapadiya and posed a significant threat to the lives and property of residents in the neighbourhood.
A complaint was lodged by Nilesh Angad Jagtap (41), attached to Kalepadal Police Station. Based on the complaint, Kalepadal Police have registered FIR No. 306/2026 under Sections 288 and 125(a)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 9-B(1)(b) of the Explosives Act, 1884.
Assistant Police Inspector Pravin Abdagire has supervised the case, while the investigation is being carried out by Assistant Police Inspector Amit Shete of Kalepadal Police Station.
