‘Assi’ OTT Release: Taapsee Pannu’sIntense Courtroom Drama Gets Digital Premiere Date
Audiences who missed watching a powerful courtroom story on the big screen will soon have another chance to experience it at home. The gripping drama Assi, led by Taapsee Pannu, is all set to make its way to OTT after earning strong critical appreciation despite a modest theatrical run.
When and where to stream ‘Assi’
The film will begin streaming on ZEE5 from April 17, 2026. Directed by Anubhav Sinha and co-written with Gaurav Solanki, the project is backed by producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Sinha himself. This digital release gives viewers the opportunity to watch the film from the comfort of their homes.
Story and themes
At its heart, Assi revolves around Parima, a Delhi-based school teacher whose life is shattered after a brutal gang rape. The narrative traces her difficult journey toward justice, with her legal battle spearheaded by lawyer Raavi, portrayed by Taapsee Pannu.
As the case unfolds, the story takes an unexpected turn with the rise of a vigilante killer. The film does not shy away from uncomfortable realities, diving deep into issues like patriarchy, victim-blaming, social indifference, and the lingering psychological trauma faced by survivors.
Cast and theatrical release
Alongside Taapsee Pannu, the film features a strong ensemble including Kani Kusruti as Parima, Revathy as Vasudha, Manoj Pahwa as Deepraj, Kumud Mishra as Kartik, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Vinay, and Satyajit Sharma as the opposition lawyer.
The film arrived in cinemas on February 20, 2026 (with some reports noting February 12) but struggled to attract large audiences. It also faced box office competition from Do Deewane Seher Mein, starring Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi.
Should you watch it?
Assi is far from an easy watch—it’s intense, unsettling, and deliberately thought-provoking. Known for hard-hitting films like Thappad and Article 15, Anubhav Sinha once again delivers a story that confronts harsh societal truths head-on. Taapsee Pannu’s performance, widely praised by critics, is considered one of the strongest of her career.
