Authorities Enforce Stricter Rules for Birth and Death Certificates to Curb Illegal Immigration
The state government has introduced stricter verification procedures for birth and death certificates, particularly for applications submitted more than a year after the event. The decision follows reports of undocumented Bangladeshis residing in certain areas of the state.
Local authorities responsible for issuing these certificates have been directed to thoroughly examine all supporting documents submitted with applications. These documents include proof of residence, school certificates, PAN cards, and Aadhaar cards.
According to the directives issued by the state government, officials must conduct rigorous verification in cases where multiple applications for birth or death certificates come from the same family. If any document appears to be fake or suspicious, authorities must immediately notify the local police station. In instances where birth or death records are unavailable, applicants will be required to publish an advertisement in local newspapers.
The government has clarified that birth certificates cannot be issued solely on the basis of documents such as school-leaving certificates, PAN cards, or Aadhaar cards. A government resolution from the public health department mandates that birth dates must be verified using hospital records, along with proof of residence.
