Pune: Authorities in Maharashtra have uncovered the existence of 1004 accident-prone areas, commonly known as ‘black spots’ scattered across different roads in the state. 23 of these hazardous locations are alone in Pune. To address this issue, a comprehensive three-tier strategy has been developed with plans for swift implementation.

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the Highway police have meticulously compiled a detailed report investigating the root causes and specific locations of these accidents. This extensive report has been formally submitted to the National Highways Authority (NHAI), the Public Works Department, and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). These organizations are now ready to collaborate and take action to reduce the prevalence of these dangerous black spots within their respective jurisdictions.

Last year’s statistics reveal 33,039 recorded road accidents in the state, resulting in 14,883 fatalities.
