Avalanche strikes at Sonamarg on Srinagar-Leh Highway

On Thursday, 8th February 2024, the Sonamarg area on the Srinagar-Leh Highway near the workshop of Zojila tunnel construction came across a massive avalanche.

As far as now, no casualties or damage have been reported.
The incident occurred amidst heavy snowfall and authorities have issued orders for higher reaches of Kashmir valley. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature stayed several degrees below the freezing point at most places in the valley.
In the wake of heavy snowfall, the authorities have taken cautionary measures which aim to ensure the safety of residents and travellers by urging people to avoid venturing into avalanche-prone zones for the next 24 hours.
This measure aligns with the commitment to safeguard lives and minimize risks associated with natural disasters.
