For maintenance purposes, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has scheduled a month-long closure of two of the most prominent auditoriums in the city, Bal Gandharva and Ganesh Kala Krida Manch. The proposal for the maintenance of Bal Gandharva & Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, from February 16 to March 16, 2024, has been placed before PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar for approval.

A PMC official said that the administration has already stopped getting bookings for these auditoriums during the period it plans to keep them shut. They anticipate receiving the PMC commissioner’s approval shortly. The contractors hired by the municipal administration to complete the maintenance work have already been fixed.

A few months prior, the civic administration and theatre artists met with Chandrakant Patil, the then-guardian minister of Pune and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to discuss the dilapidated state of the auditoriums and the numerous complaints made regarding them.

Patil had directed the PMC commissioner to commence the upkeep of all the principal auditoriums right away. After that, the administration created the plan in accordance with Patil’s directives. The Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium in Kothrud was shut for forty days a few weeks ago for maintenance purposes.

The auditoriums at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch and Bal Gandharva will now be closed for maintenance. Due to their convenient locations, both of these auditoriums are frequently reserved for plays and other cultural events.
