Bank holiday April 2024: Closure schedule in states across India for Eid, Ram Navami and other festivals

As the Islamic festival of Eid al-Fitr approaches, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced bank closures in certain states 

Ramadan Eid bank holiday 2024: Private as well as private banks across various states will be closed on April 10 and April 11 on the occasion of Ramzan-Id (Eid-Ul-Fitr)/ (1st Shawwal), according to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar

April 10: Banks will be closed in Kerala

April 11 (Thursday)- Ramzan-Id (Eid-Ul-Fitr) (1st Shawwal): Banks are closed in most of the states except Chandigarh, Sikkim, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh. However, the specific date of Eid al-Fitr depends on the sighting of the crescent moon, symbolizing the start of the month of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar. Due to the variability of lunar months, Muslims typically await confirmation until the evening before Eid. 

April 13 (second Saturday)- Bohag Bihu/Cheiraoba/Baisakhi/Biju Festival: Banks are closed in Tripura, Assam, Manipur, Jammu and Srinagar

April 14, 2024: Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday

April 15, 2024: Banks will remain closed in Guwahati and Shimla due to Himachal Day/Bohag Bihu.

April 16 bank holiday: On the occasion of Ram Navami, banks will be closed in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh.

April 17, 2024: Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad( Andhra Pradesh & Telangana), Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Shimla, Mumbai, and Nagpur on the festival of Shri Ram Navami.

April 20, 2024: There will be a bank holiday in Agartala due to Garia Puja. Banks’ branches in Tripura will be shut for the Garia Puja festival.

April 21, 2024: Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.

April 27, 2024: Banks will remain closed across the country due to the fourth Saturday.

April 28, 2024: Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.

These closures align with the Reserve Bank of India’s categorization of holidays into three distinct groups: Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays, Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) Holidays and Bank Account Closing Holidays. 

Despite these closures, digital banking channels continue to provide customers with convenient access to banking services, allowing for seamless transactions anytime, anywhere.
