Mumbai, May 4, 2026: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Mahavitaran) has informed that since the implementation of the Time of Day (ToD) concession for electricity consumption between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM in July 2025, 70 lakh electricity consumers across the state have collectively received benefits totalling ₹2,235 crore. Among these beneficiaries, 15,907 High Tension (HT) industrial consumers hold the top spot, having received a combined benefit of ₹1,534 crore.

A concession on electricity tariffs, granted based on the specific time of day during which the electricity is consumed, is known as the ToD concession. In the state, effective July 2025, a concession was introduced for industrial and commercial electricity consumers with a connected load exceeding 10 kW, specifically for electricity consumed between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. These consumers are currently receiving a substantial concession: 15 percent for the months of April to September, and 25 percent for the months of October to March.

For the first time, all domestic consumers have also begun to receive the benefits of the ToD concession. During the current financial year, a ToD concession of 85 paise per unit is being provided for electricity consumed between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Since smart meters are equipped with the capability to precisely measure the quantity of electricity consumed at any given time, domestic consumers who have installed smart meters are currently benefiting from this facility.

When considering industrial consumers collectively—including High Tension (HT) industrial consumers, HT seasonal industrial consumers, Low Tension (LT) industrial consumers, and power loom units—a total of 43,911 industrial consumers have received benefits amounting to ₹1,774 crore. Furthermore, 11,017 commercial consumers across the state—comprising both HT and LT categories—have collectively received benefits totalling ₹239 crore.

Since the commencement of ToD benefits for domestic consumers, they have realized a total benefit of ₹89 crore, corresponding to a consumption volume of 1,096 million units. The number of beneficiary domestic consumers during this period stood at 69,35,388.

The campaign to install smart meters in households across the state has gained momentum. Concurrently, the number of domestic electricity consumers availing of Time-of-Day (ToD) benefits is also on the rise.

The benefit of reduced electricity tariffs during the 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM window has also been extended to public water supply systems and other public services. Specifically for these sectors, 12,989 consumers have collectively received ToD benefits amounting to ₹202 crore.

The availability of renewable energy—such as solar power—has increased within the state. Since this electricity is available at a lower cost, Mahavitaran has implemented a concessional tariff for daytime electricity consumption, in accordance with the directives of the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). Mahavitaran has appealed to electricity consumers to maximize their utilization of the ToD concession by prioritizing the use of high-energy-consuming appliances during the 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM timeframe.
