Pune: A shocking incident has come to the fore in which a Bengaluru-based builder with residential projects in Virar was taken into custody on charges of selling two flats to 150 buyers and defrauding them of over Rs 30 crores. As per information, the police are also investigating if a third apartment was sold similarly.

As per further information, Unit 3 of the crime branch of the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar police commissionerate detained the director of Mandar Housing Pvt Ltd in Bengaluru. His numerous accomplices are absconding. The real estate company is working on projects in Nalasopara and Virar. From 2011 to 2018, more than 150 customers were defrauded. Cheating complaints had been filed at the Virar (west) Arnala police station.

As part of its investigation into unresolved cases, the crime branch unit set out to find the main suspect. The defendant asserted that they provided apartments at prices below the market value.

Fifty-five potential buyers were shown two or three apartments by the accused individuals, who also completed the sale agreements. It turned out that the apartments were sold to several people. Consumers were reassured by offering interest if the delivery of their apartments was postponed.

The police stated that they believed the residential towers were built using forged documents.

The primary accused, who conducted business from his Bengaluru home, came under scrutiny by the police. On Thursday, a team took him into custody. He has been charged with cheating and forgery and has been placed under police custody until November 9. The police are hunting for others who were involved.
