To address the city’s traffic congestion, the Bengaluru traffic police implemented ASTraM, or Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management.

A senior Bengaluru Traffic Police official stated that ASTraM is a smart traffic engine offering comprehensive insights into the road traffic scenario in Bengaluru city.

The official further said that the main goal is to give situational awareness so that data-driven choices can be made to improve traffic management. This comprises dashboard analytics, special event management, BOT (mobile application) incident reporting, congestion alerts and more.

The official further continued that every fifteen minutes, the program seeks to provide jurisdictional traffic officials with real-time congestion alerts. The e-attendance system is integrated with these alerts, so sector officers and junction jockeys will receive timely notifications. The goal is to inform key players for better traffic management and planning.

The goal of this project is to deliver useful information about traffic laws, enforcement, and road conditions. Analyzing traffic volume, duration of congestion, number of vehicles, type of vehicle, etc. is the main goal in order to enable data-driven decisions for efficient traffic management.

The official further explained that the Bengaluru traffic police also intends to use data analytics to forecast traffic jams. In order to improve responsiveness to deviations from regular traffic volumes, this involves monitoring historic data and conducting comparative analysis with real-time traffic.

The traffic official further said that the goal of this BOT service is to report field incidents from authorized sources. The Traffic Management Center (TMC) of BTP is then able to monitor traffic conditions on the field and work with relevant traffic officials and other stakeholders to find a solution thanks to the sharing of this information with map services.
