The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking is gearing up to operate its buses on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu.

However, this plan is contingent on the acquisition of additional single and double-decker AC buses. With the current fleet of 2,954 buses falling short to cover existing routes adequately, BEST intends to introduce more buses in the near future.

The fleet includes approximately 50 AC double-decker e-buses, and plans are underway to add 25 single-decker e-buses. Citizens from areas like Panvel, Kharghar, Ulwe, and nearby regions are expected to benefit from the Chalo Premium BEST buses running on this route, contributing to the success of MTHL.

Transport experts emphasize the need to promote public transportation for the sustainable development of the ‘Third Mumbai’ region, covering areas beyond MTHL, such as Panvel, Uran, and more. The administration is also considering pitching for zero toll for BEST buses as a measure to encourage public transport on the bridge.
