The Bharat Series registration system is seeing rising demand in Pune, especially among car owners who frequently relocate across states.

The Bharat Series, popularly known as the BH number plate, is receiving a strong response in Pune as more vehicle owners opt for hassle-free movement across India without repeated state re-registration formalities.

During the financial year 2025-26, a total of 7,394 vehicles were reportedly registered under the BH Series through the Pune Regional Transport Office. The figure marks a sharp rise compared with the previous year and reflects growing awareness of the scheme.

Of the total registrations, 4,637 were for cars, while 2,757 were for two-wheelers.

The BH Series was introduced in 2021 under the Centre’s “One Nation, One Number” concept. It was designed to help eligible vehicle owners who frequently move between states due to transferable jobs or professional commitments.

Under normal rules, vehicles kept in another state for an extended period may require fresh registration after a prescribed time. The BH Series aims to simplify this process by allowing smoother nationwide usage under a common registration format.

Pune has emerged as a strong market for the scheme due to the presence of central government offices, semi-government institutions, defence establishments and multinational companies. Many professionals in such sectors often relocate between cities, making the BH Series a practical option.

The registration number format is distinct and easy to identify. It typically includes the last two digits of the registration year, followed by the letters “BH”, a numeric code and an ending alphabetic character.

For example, a BH plate issued in 2026 would begin with “26 BH”.

Transport experts say the rising popularity of BH registration also reflects changing work patterns, where professionals increasingly move between states for corporate, administrative and project-based roles.

Vehicle owners considering the BH Series are advised to check eligibility rules, tax structure, documentation requirements and latest norms with the concerned transport authority before applying.

With Pune continuing to grow as a major employment and technology hub, demand for flexible vehicle registration options is expected to remain strong.

Disclaimer: Eligibility criteria, taxation method and registration procedures for BH Series may change as per government rules. Applicants should verify current norms with the RTO before applying.
