Pune: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of 99 candidates for the upcoming 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, signaling its intent to hold onto key constituencies across the state. The list features several prominent sitting MLAs, reinforcing the party’s focus on retaining its strongholds.

Among the candidates are Siddharth Shirole from Shivajinagar, a high-profile constituency in Pune, and three-time MLA Madhuri Misal, who will contest from Parvati. Shirole, known for his strong electoral performance and connection with Pune’s urban electorate, is expected to be a crucial contender. Misal, a seasoned politician, has consistently secured her position in Parvati and is regarded as a key BJP figure in the region.

Shankar Jagtap, brother-in-law of current MLA Ashwini Jagtap, has been fielded from Chinchwad, while Mahesh Landage will once again contest from Bhosari, another significant constituency in Pune’s political landscape. Both Jagtap and Landage have been influential in their respective constituencies and are seen as strong candidates capable of securing wins for the party.

Chandrakant Patil has also been announced as the candidate from Kothrud constituency. He did face opposition from his party in the last few weeks.

The BJP’s early announcement of these candidates reflects its strategy to consolidate its presence in Maharashtra ahead of the Assembly elections. The party aims to retain its dominance in the state while countering the challenges posed by opposition parties, particularly the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance.
