Father and 10-Year-Old Daughter Killed, 12 Injured as Speeding Truck with Brake Failure Rams Into 4 Vehicles on Old Pune-Mumbai Highway
Lonavala, April 21: A tragic accident on the old Pune-Mumbai highway near Lonavala claimed the lives of a 40-year-old man and his 10-year-old daughter late Sunday night, while 12 others sustained injuries after a speeding truck rammed into four vehicles.
According to Pune Rural Police, the deceased have been identified as Nilesh Sanjay Lagad, a resident of Shukrawar Peth in Pune city, and his daughter Shravya. The two were returning from Alibag to Pune when the accident occurred around 10:15 PM near Battery Hill in the Lonavala area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck, which was travelling from Pune to Mumbai, suffered brake failure and first collided with an Innova car. The truck then crashed into an Ertiga, a Tata Punch, and an autorickshaw, all heading towards Pune, before finally hitting roadside railings.
The impact of the collision dragged Lagad’s car for several metres, crushing both father and daughter inside the vehicle. They were declared dead on the spot.
Twelve other people sustained injuries in the incident and were rushed to a nearby hospital with the help of local villagers.
An FIR has been registered at the Lonavala City Police Station, and the damaged vehicles have been cleared from the road. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
