Brazilian Model’s Photo Allegedly Used 22 Times in Haryana Voter List, Claims Rahul Gandhi
Congress alleges large-scale voter fraud in 2024 Haryana Assembly elections
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has levelled serious allegations of voter fraud in Haryana, claiming that the photograph of a Brazilian citizen was used repeatedly in the state’s electoral roll under different names. According to him, the same image appeared 22 times, linked with voter IDs such as Seema, Sweety and Saraswati, across multiple booths.
Gandhi called this case only “one example” of what he described as a large and organised attempt to manipulate the state’s election. He said that out of nearly two crore voters, around 25 lakh entries were either fake or suspicious. During his briefing, he also pointed out that Congress lost several seats by narrow margins, adding that such irregularities may have influenced the final results.
He referred to this case as a “hydrogen bomb,” arguing that the issue was not limited to one district or one voter list, but part of a much bigger pattern. Gandhi questioned how a foreign national’s photograph could appear repeatedly in government records and said the matter required immediate investigation.
The controversy has triggered political reactions across parties, with demands for clarity on the preparation and verification of electoral rolls. Questions are being raised about how these entries went unnoticed at the booth level, and how many such mismatches might still exist.
The matter has now gained national attention, with calls for verification of sensitive voter data, stronger checks, and accountability from the agencies responsible for maintaining the rolls. With elections in the spotlight, the debate around voter identity, booth-level vigilance and secure roll management is likely to intensify further.
For now, the incident involving the repeated use of a Brazilian model’s photograph has become the centre of a wider discussion on electoral transparency and the need for stronger safeguards in the voting process.
